The first day of Chaitra symbolizes the beginning of a new year per Hindu Calendar and is celebrated with various festivities across India. Ugadi or Yug-adi literally means beginning of an age or era. It is believed that Bramha started the creation of Universe on this auspicious day. Lord Vishnu is also worshiped on this day as Yugadikrit, the creator of the Yugas or ages.
