Vidyarambha/Aksharabhyasam (Beginning of Education)
Vidyarambham is a Hindu tradition, which introduces young children into the world of knowledge, letters, and the process of learning. This ceremony can be performed for a child between the age of 2-5 years.
As per the Hindu culture, the age sixty is of great significance because it is considered as a turning point in a man’s life for at this age one has usually fulfilled his commitments to family and home and so he can turn his mind to spirituality. Meaningful and elaborate rituals have been included to mark this milestone in a person’s life. Some of the wedding rituals are performed. This is also called as Ugra Ratha Shanthi, which means appeasement of harsh times.
The Navagraha Shanti Puja is a comprehensive and potent Puja performed to invoke the blessings of the nine planets – Surya (sun), Chandra (moon), Mangal (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Bruhaspathi (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu (North lunar node), Ketu (South lunar node). This Puja is performed in nine stages with separate offerings and mantras for each of the nine planets, and is therefore the most powerful of the Navagraha Pujas.
